A new counseling program begins tonight for teens in the Triad.
Text 4 Teens is a program that allows youths to seek support without saying a word. Teenagers can use texting to find help with depression, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse pressures or relationship problems. Michael Cottingham with Center Point Human Services believes using newer technology is the best way to connect.
Michael Cottingham: "Teens really needed a new program that would reach them where they're most able to reach out to other people, which electronic texting is really what teens are doing on a daily basis, throughout the day."
Cottingham says similar texting programs have had success in New York City. Text 4 Teens is available in Forsyth, Stokes, Davie and Rockingham counties. Counselors will be available on Friday and Saturday nights, and Sunday afternoons.
