It’s campaign season in cities and counties across the state. And nowhere are the races more interesting or hotly contested than in Wake County.
Already the campaign season has seen a Raleigh city council candidate sent to federal prison and a 16-year old announcing his intention to run for mayor. Middle Creek High School junior Seth Keel could not file to run officially, however, as the state requires office-holders to be 21 years old. Three candidates will be on the ballot for mayor. City councilwoman Nancy McFarlane will run as an independent. Two Republicans are challenging her. Real Estate executive Billie Redmond and estate Doctor Randall Wiliams have no political experience. The sparks are expected to really fly in the races for Wake School Board. To recapture a board majority, democrats would need to win all five seats up for grabs. Election Day is October 11.
