Storms brought heavy rain to the Triangle overnight. Several roads flooded, and drivers needed to be rescued from submerged vehicles along the Raleigh beltline.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Michael Strickler says resident can expect more of the same tonight.“With the heating of the day this afternoon and particularly this evening, we'll have another round of scattered and numerous showers and storms,” said Strickler.
Strickler said we can expect more torrential storms tonight, with potential for damaging winds reaching up to 60 miles per hour across the Triad and Triangle.
“I would say anywhere from 40 to, perhaps, as high as 60 miles per hour,” he said. “Those would be focused right along the urban corridor, from the northwest Piedmont -- Greensboro, Winston-Salem -- down toward Raleigh, and then over toward Rocky Mount, so basically right down the middle of central North Carolina.”
Strickler said showers are likely to continue Tuesday before moving eastwardly and bringing rain to the coast. But, he said, that will leave clearer skies over the Triad and the Triangle.
“And then a cooler and drier air mass builds in mid-to-late week,” he said. “So it looks like Thursday and Friday in particular will be very nice. Dry, lower humidity and cooler temperatures, well down into the 80s.”
The National Weather Service says a high pressure system moving in from the west will keep the stormy weather offshore into the weekend.
