Wake School Board Races Heat Up

The races for Wake County School Board are heating up. Five seats are up for grabs in this fall’s election.

Four of the five contested seats are held by supporters of the old policy that assigned students using socio-economic diversity. The other is held by board chairman Ron Margiotta. Margiotta led the current board majority’s controversial effort to end the diversity policy. For the Republican majority to change hands, Democrats would have to win all five races. The filing period doesn't begin until July 25th, although incumbents have already announced their decisions. Three have said they will run again, two will not. Several challengers have also announced they plan to enter the race. Wake County Voters can only vote for the candidates in their district. The election will be held on October 11th.
