UNC-CH professor David Garcia tried something a little different last year for one of his classes. It was called "Musical Movements: Migration, Exile, and Diaspora," and instead of a lecture, it was hands-on. The students produced a compilation CD of Latin music from around North Carolina.

“Viva Cackalacky! Latin Music in the New South” is a musical representation showing how migrants have created their own communities in the area as well as influenced and been influenced by existing ones. Host Frank Stasio talks about "Viva Cackalacky!" with David Garcia, an associate professor of music at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Mariana Gomez, one of his students; and Nelson Delgado, lead singer of Orquesta GarDel, one of the bands featured on the CD.
