Multiple perspectives will get an airing at a panel this evening on the proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and civil unions in North Carolina.
The discussion at Meredith College will be moderated by religious and ethical studies assistant professor Steven Benko. He says legal experts on both sides of the issue will offer analysis of the law. And religious leaders will also participate.
Steven Benko: For some people their religious faith and belief guides their moral and ethical decision making, and we want to inform our community that there is not just one way of approaching the issue of homosexuality or same-sex marriage within a particular religion.
Benko says the goal is to model civil debate among opposing viewpoints. The panel is at 7pm and open to the public.
The amendment is on the ballot on May 8th.
