Food Truck Trial In Greensboro

A limited number of food trucks will be allowed in part of downtown Greensboro this fall.

The Greensboro City Council voted 7 to 2 last night, in favor of a pilot program that will run during October and November. Ten supporters told the Council they believe food trucks will offer more affordable choices to students and employees downtown. No opponents of the measure spoke at the meeting.

The biggest complaint from the two Council members voting against it was that the pilot program limits the options to four trucks each day. They would like to see a free market approach and a much higher maximum instituted. Food trucks will have to register with the Guilford County Department of Public Health and pay 20 dollars to park in one of four designated spots. Currently food trucks are prohibited in the downtown neighborhood.
