France is paying tribute to seven North Carolina veterans of World War II today in Raleigh.  The men will be presented with the French Legion of Honor.

Denis Barbet  is the Consul General of France in Atlanta.  He says the medal is his country's highest decoration.

"We think that it's never too late to recognize the merits of the young Americans who came to France for to brought back freedom and liberty to France and to Europe as well."

Barbet says he looks forward to meeting the veterans and their families at this afternoon's ceremony at the State Capitol.

Eric Hodge hosts WUNC’s broadcast of Morning Edition, and files reports for the North Carolina news segments of the broadcast. He started at the station in 2004 doing fill-in work on weekends and All Things Considered.
