Fort Bragg is hosting a Transition Summit today and tomorrow to help out-going soldiers find jobs outside the military.
The federal unemployment rate for veterans is about six percent. That's according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics' July numbers.
Lt. Col. Gary Belcher said between up to 800 soldiers transition out of the Army at Ft. Bragg every month. And Belcher said many of them have trouble parlaying their experience into a career in civilian life.
Belcher said in the forums, employers will discuss what they're looking for and learn the benefits of hiring veterans.
“Soldiers are a viable commodity in terms of their ability to work well as part of a team, to achieve a mission or a goal, and be productive for their employer.”
Tomorrow, there will be employment workshops and a job fair. The events are also open to veterans and their families.
