Candidate filing begins today for the Wake County Board of Education, and all nine seats will be on the November ballot.
Board-member turnover is likely, since all but one of the school board members will find themselves in the same district as another incumbent.
In 2013, North Carolina lawmakers redrew the Wake School Board districts. Come fall, the nine existing districts will become seven. Plus, two super-districts will overlay the map: The urban district A and the suburban district B.
But that's only if the new boundaries hold. A lawsuit in The U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals claims the new map gives more control to predominantly Republican voters in rural areas. The court has yet to issue a ruling.
