In honor of the victims of Hurricane Katrina, Performance Today celebrates New Orleans' rich musical heritage. We check in with composers and musicians from New Orleans and hear music made by people from -- or inspired by -- the Big Easy.
Among the many other treats, we delve into works by New Orleans composers Edmond Dede, Louis Moreau Gottschalk and Lucien-Leon Lambert. We also hear from displaced members of the Louisiana Philharmonic.
No musical journey to New Orleans is complete without an infusion of jazz; this one is no exception. Performance Today visits with Ben Jaffe, director of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and two members of the multi-talented Marsalis family, Branford and Wynton.
