Teachers aren’t the only ones seething after the Republican-led Legislature made it more difficult for educators to pay their dues to the North Carolina Association of Educators.
Governor Bev Perdue also is lashing out at Republicans for their late-night vote to do away with payroll deduction as a way to pay the NCAE dues.
Bev Perdue: What I saw happen is unprecedented in my mind. You had a very hush-hush decision in the early morning of voting day to stand up with very little notice and tell people that they were going to take revenge on their teachers.
Members of other groups, like the State Employees Association, can still use payroll deduction to pay their dues. Republican Speaker of the House Thom Tillis did not immediately return a request for comment. The NCAE says the law unfairly targets their organization and they plan to challenge it in court.
