Wake Launching Tech High School

Students in Wake County Schools who seek technical skills that could lead to jobs may soon have a new school to consider. The Wake School Board has approved the creation of a new career technical high school.

Dave DeWitt: The Career Technical High School would be a partnership with Wake Technical Community College. It would offer classes and certificates in areas like automobile repair, biopharmaceuticals and cosmetology.

Many of the details still have to be worked out. The school is expected to serve either 700 full-time students or 14-hundred half-day students. Wake Tech will use the facility for college students and adults in the evenings and weekends.

The Wake County Board of Commissioners will need to sign off on the school.

Originally, administrators had hoped the Career Technical school could be ready for the 2013 school year, but the opening has now been pushed back to 2014.
