Teachers Rally In Raleigh

The North Carolina Association of Educators will hold its annual convention in Raleigh today. The teachers' group is also expected to march through the city streets.

North Carolina's teachers are facing thousands of potential layoffs across the state and a nationwide trend portraying them as entrenched and ineffective.

It's against this backdrop that the NCAE will release a report and lead a march through downtown Raleigh called "Unite, Organize, Empower." The NCAE is not a union and has no collective bargaining rights. North Carolina teachers make about $9,000 a year less than the national average.

The General Assembly is considering a budget that could cut hundreds of millions of dollars from k-12 education.
