Michael Franti got his start issuing fiercely political screeds as a member of The Beatnigs and Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy back in the late '80s and early '90s. But, while he doesn't exactly bite his tongue these days, Franti has also found a musical home for his mellower and more celebratory side in recent years. His forthcoming album, The Sound of Sunshine, can be as cheerful as its title suggests, especially on the irresistible song of the same name.
