A3: From 'The Sopranos' To Joy Division

Alabama 3, a.k.a. A3, is an unlikely band in many ways. A ten-piece from the U.K., it was sued by the country band Alabama and forced to change its name. Its members claim that they met in rehab and usually speak in deep Southern accents. And, of course, their song "Woke Up This Morning" became the theme for the American mob show The Sopranos.

A3 pared itself down to a trio for a visit to WFUV, and while it did offer up the backstory on The Sopranos, the band also proved that it's much more than that one song. Armed with two acoustic guitars and three voices, A3 also ran through a "country death ballad" version of the Joy Division classic "Love Will Tear Us Apart."

Originally recorded June 30, 2008.
