The music of Stephanie's Id is both calming and haunting. The four-piece group from Asheville, NC mixes gentle pop rhythms with simple piano, guitar, some strings and subtle synth flourishes to create a hazy backdrop for singer Stephanie Morgan's seductive voice. It's a beguiling mix of sounds with unexpected sonic turns as hushed, serene songs erupt suddenly into dark, explosive jams.
Stephanie's Id is Stephanie Morgan, with Chuck Lichtenberger, Michael Libramento and Krum. Their third album, released last fall on Nine Mile Records, is Grus Americanus.
Stephanie's Id formed about five years ago. The group says "we always play with heart and lust and gusto, because there's no point in doing anything else. We care about things in the world. We often brood about them. But not for terribly long or for too many songs, as there is no long-term gain in taking the human condition too seriously. The music, like life itself, is striving, searching, inconclusive, and (hopefully) beautiful."
Stephanie's Id is currently on tour with dates scheduled through the summer in the southeast and New England.
