John Hiatt has been in the music industry for almost 30 years, and his songs and voice have become a timeless part of the American musical landscape. With an endearingly gruff voice and amazing guitar technique, Hiatt has seen many high-profile fans (including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Ry Cooder) cover his songs.

Over the years, Hiatt has worked with some of the industry's top names — a list that now includes renowned producer Jim Dickinson and his sons Cody and Luther of the blues-infused country-rock band North Mississippi Allstars. The latter group came together in 1996 and became an instant success, going on to release six albums and tour the world.

Hiatt's newest album, Master of Disaster, features an edgy, funky sound, thanks largely to the assistance of The North Mississippi Allstars. Together, they assemble a collection of gritty country, blues, rock and jazz in an attempt to represent a cross-section of American music. This segment originally aired on Aug. 24, 2006.
