Young Austrian pianist Till Fellner joins NPR's Fred Child in Studio 4A for a chat and a performance of a pair of Bach preludes and fugues from the composer's work The Well-Tempered Clavier.
Born 1972 in Vienna, Fellner studied at the prestigious Vienna Conservatory starting at the age of 9. His professional career eventually intruded on his studies; Child points out in the interview that Fellner took 22 years to receive his degree.
Fellner recently released his ECM Records debut, The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. The pianist has performed the Bach preludes and fugues across Europe, earning praise for his interpretations of the music.
