Edwards Jurors Begin 8th Day Of Deliberations

In federal court jury deliberations begin an eighth day at the John Edwards trial today.

Jeff Tiberii: The most exciting moment in court on Monday came when Judge Catherine Eagles said “The jury has sent me a note that they have reached a good place to stop. The pregnant pause provided a moment of anticipation that was followed by a group exhale and laughter in the courtroom. Eagles sheepishly apologized to the gallery and moments later, after bringing the jury in, told the group they will deliberate for an extra 30 minutes today and tomorrow. Edwards was indicted almost a year ago on six counts of campaign finance violations. Prosecutors say he arranged a cover-up to use money from two wealthy donors to hide his pregnant mistress. The defense has argued Edwards committed a sin, but no felony. The former US Senator faces 30 years in prison if convicted.

Jeff Tiberii is the co-host of WUNC's "Due South." Jeff joined WUNC in 2011. During his 20 years in public radio, he was Morning Edition Host at WFDD and WUNC’s Greensboro Bureau Chief and later, the Capitol Bureau Chief. Jeff has covered state and federal politics, produced the radio documentary “Right Turn,” launched a podcast, and was named North Carolina Radio Reporter of the Year four times.
