Betty Wright: Girls Can't Do What The Guys Do - WUNC's Songs We Love Podcast
This Saturday is Record Store Day, a worldwide celebration of record stores and the people that keep them afloat in the age of streaming and digital downloads. To celebrate, we invited some local record store owners and managers to come by the studio and tell us about what they've been listening to lately, and what the occasion means to them.
On today's episode we've got Jack Bonney from Carolina Soul in Durham. Jack talks to Eric Hodge about the lead off track from Betty Wright's 1968 debut album 'My First Time Around.'
Bonney also talks about what Record Store Day means to him. He says the holiday serves as a good reminder that record stores are still going strong and they're not going anywhere any time soon. He says there are several great records being released exclusively on Record Store Day this year, including a reissue of a track titled "Impeach The President" by the funk band The Honey Drippers.
