State Fair Well Attended So Far

State fair officials say attendance has been strong at the annual event this year.

Last year the state fair set a record attendance level of more than a million people. But spokesman Brian Long says he and other officials aren't really interested in breaking that record.

Brian Long: "We're very pleased with where we are right now numbers-wise, but we just want people to take advantage of the good weather that's coming up and come on out. "
So far, the event has attracted half a million visitors. Long says over time, the fair has added exhibit space and expanded the midway to accommodate more rides and games. He thinks those improvements have encouraged more people to attend the event. The fair's last day is Sunday.
