Battle Of Guilford Courthouse Commemoration

reenactment

Country park in Guilford County will commemorate the 230th anniversary of the battle of Guilford Courthouse this weekend. Re-enactors will show how revolutionary soldiers lived and will re-create the battle.

Country park assistant manager Harold Gunn says the battle was an important turning point in the Revolutionary war:

"It was a British victory but in deafeating General Greene here Cornwallis lost about a quarter of his army at this particular battle.  Without this battle he would have been much stronger at Yorktown."

At Yorktown, American colonists and French soldiers surrounded British troops on the York River in Virginia. That led to Cornwallis' surrender and the end of the war itself.
