No doubt you've heard StoryCorps on Friday mornings during Morning Edition. Intimate one-on-one conversations are recorded in the traveling StoryCorps booth and played back on the radio. Some years back the booth came to Durham sponsored by WUNC. One of the conversations from that Durham visit is now part of an animated series from StoryCorps.
That conversation begins on the streets of Chapel Hill, NC, where former WUNC engineer David Wright befriended and helped homeless Eddie Lanier escape a life of alcoholism.
The StoryCorps web site summarizes it like this:
Eddie Lanier struggled with alcoholism for over 40 years, until his 28th stint in rehab finally led to sobriety. Homeless and hungry, Eddie roamed the streets of his native Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and found a friend in David Wright, a passerby whose frequent donations stood out. Here, the two friends discuss Eddie's remarkable journey.
Grab a box of tissues and watch how The Rauch Brothers transform into animation this heart-warming story of life transformation:
