State Of Research Triangle Region

Charles Hayes
Gerry Collins Photography

Business Leaders, economic developers and other stakeholders came out in the hundreds to hear yesterday’s State of the Research Triangle Region address.

Leoneda Inge: Charles Hayes is President and CEO of the Research Triangle Regional Partnership. He says in 2011 the region’s population grew by nearly two percent and wages grew by almost five-percent. But job growth is still slow. Hayes says since their economic plan was implemented in 2009 the 13 county region has added only 22,400 jobs.

Charles Hayes: That’s not good news. But few in 2009 thought the Great Recession, the Great Re-Set would still be with us three years later, but it is.

Hayes told the crowd he predicts a total recovery thanks to growth news from companies like Red Hat, and Cisco Systems and building projects at Galloway Ridge and Campbell University’s medical school.

Leoneda Inge is the co-host of WUNC's "Due South." Leoneda has been a radio journalist for more than 30 years, spending most of her career at WUNC as the Race and Southern Culture reporter.
