Originally known as Cavil at Rest, Local Natives first gained widespread attention at 2009's South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. But as recording artists, housemates Kelcey Ayer, Ryan Hah, Taylor Rice, Matt Frazier and Andy Hamm made their first impression in the U.K., where they released their debut album in 2009. Earlier this year, Gorilla Manor made its way to the U.S., where it's helped the band make a major breakthrough. Gorilla Manor, named for Local Natives' shared abode in Orange County, is one of 2010's most well-received debuts. An emotionally rich yet unfailingly cheerful pop disc, it weaves together three-part harmonies and a hyperactive percussion section; it's also won the band comparisons to the likes of Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire and Band of Horses.
