A new slate of state lawmakers was seated at the General Assembly this week, and there are more than three dozen new faces now in office. Becki Gray, of the John Locke Foundation, and Rob Schofield, of NC Policy Watch, join WUNC Capitol Bureau Chief Jeff Tiberii to discuss some of the noteworthy first-term legislators.

They also weigh-in on ethical questions surrounding the House speaker, the effects of the partial federal government shutdown on North Carolina, and a plan to move the press room to the basement of the North Carolina legislature for the first time in the building's history.

Jeff Tiberii is the co-host of WUNC's "Due South." Jeff joined WUNC in 2011. During his 20 years in public radio, he was Morning Edition Host at WFDD and WUNC’s Greensboro Bureau Chief and later, the Capitol Bureau Chief. Jeff has covered state and federal politics, produced the radio documentary “Right Turn,” launched a podcast, and was named North Carolina Radio Reporter of the Year four times.
