WUNC Capitol Bureau Chief Jeff Tiberii checks in with Rob Schofield, of NC Policy Watch, and Mitch Kokai, of the John Locke Foundation, in the latest episode of the Week in State Politics

On this week's review of North Carolina politics, a much-criticized Legislative committee tasked with studying the pros and cons of breaking up large school districts adjourned without making any policy recommendations. Also, the most recent revenue projections forecast a state surplus of more than $200 million. When legislators reconvene next month, what are the top two things they should do with that money?

And finally,  we're less than a month from the primary election and two incumbents from Mecklenburg County – both African-American Democrats – did not receive support from the Charlotte Black Caucus.

Rob Schofield, of NC Policy Watch, and Mitch Kokai, of the John Locke Foundation, discuss those stories during this conversation.

Jeff Tiberii is the co-host of WUNC's "Due South." Jeff joined WUNC in 2011. During his 20 years in public radio, he was Morning Edition Host at WFDD and WUNC’s Greensboro Bureau Chief and later, the Capitol Bureau Chief. Jeff has covered state and federal politics, produced the radio documentary “Right Turn,” launched a podcast, and was named North Carolina Radio Reporter of the Year four times.
