Prosecution Prepares To Rest In Edwards Trial

In the John Edwards trial, the government has indicated it could rest its case this afternoon.

Jeff Tiberii: For nearly three weeks the federal government has made its case against former two-time presidential candidate John Edwards. He’s charged with six counts of campaign finance violations. More than 20 witnesses have testified about Edwards extra marital affair with Rielle Hunter, the attempts to conceal that relationship, and hundreds of thousands of dollars given by two wealthy donors. The prosecution will call at least three more witnesses today. It has not given any hint that it will call Hunter to the stand. Edwards is facing 30 years in prison if convicted.

Jeff Tiberii is the co-host of WUNC's "Due South." Jeff joined WUNC in 2011. During his 20 years in public radio, he was Morning Edition Host at WFDD and WUNC’s Greensboro Bureau Chief and later, the Capitol Bureau Chief. Jeff has covered state and federal politics, produced the radio documentary “Right Turn,” launched a podcast, and was named North Carolina Radio Reporter of the Year four times.
