Bonnaroo 2010: Melvins In Concert

Melvins' members found themselves thrust unexpectedly into the mainstream spotlight back in the early 1990s, when Kurt Cobain gave them his high-profile endorsement. (He had, after all, auditioned unsuccessfully to join the band, whose members he'd known since high school.) This, in turn, led to an almost comical mismatch between Melvins and the world of major-label distribution and high-profile touring: The group's pulverizing and experimental music isn't exactly the stuff of pop singles. Meeting somewhere between Black Flag and Black Sabbath, with countless excursions outside that overly simplistic description, Melvins' sound has been documented on dozens of recordings dating back to the mid-'80s. The latest is a studio album titled The Bride Screamed Murder. Hear Melvins perform live from the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn.
