Nikka Costa: Small Frame, Big Voice

When Nikka Costa visited WFUV to spread the word about her new album, Pebble to a Pearl, she brought with her a reputation as an artist who's seen many different sides of the music business.

The daughter of producer and arranger Don Costa and the goddaughter of Frank Sinatra, Costa has been performing since she was a little girl, wowing audiences for much of her life. She also enjoyed commercial success overseas at a young age. Yet when Costa sat down to talk, she was down to earth and warm, and didn't display any of the qualities of a person living a charmed life.

In the studio, Costa was unassuming, blending in with her bandmates. Physically, she's a small woman, but when she started to sing, her voice came booming out of her small frame.
