The Ike Reilly Assassination: Rock Gets 'Staggering'

The Ike Reilly Assassination.
The Ike Reilly Assassination.

Ike Reilly began his music career in the late '80s, when he became a fixture on the Chicago-area club scene. By the early '90s, Reilly had retired from music and started working odd jobs as a doorman and a cemetery worker, but in 2001, he returned with a thrilling debut album, Salesmen and Racists. His gritty voice and honest, provocative lyrics helped win the disc glowing reviews.

In 2003, Reilly and his band assumed the name The Ike Reilly Assassination, and in subsequent years released two albums: 2004's Sparkle in the Finish and 2005's Junkie Faithful. The band's crowd-pleasing, politically charged new album, We Belong to the Staggering Evening, recalls '60s garage rock while infusing it with an appealing mixture of blues and R&B.
