David Karsten Daniels is a North Carolina-based songwriter who draws from what he calls "the fertile environment" of the South. "This one region has produced some of the greatest pain, conflict and redemption of the American experience," says Daniels. Sharp Teeth reflects this. Daniels calls it an "exploration of moral ambiguity and perhaps unavoidable human disconnection."
Daniels' diverse musical background includes singing hymns as a child, a high school jazz band, and formal university training in composition, theory, free improvisation and performance art. Nearly two dozen musicians join Daniels for his latest CD, the ambitious Sharp Teeth.
"There is a joy that you can't contain and there is a feeling you just can't explain," repeats Daniels and friends, every measure introducing new voices and instruments.
