Paula Cole: On the Rise Again

Paula Cole.
Paula Cole.

The '90s saw Paula Cole rise from a supporting player on Peter Gabriel's 1992-93 world tour to a chart-topping pop sensation in her own right. But after an eight-year hiatus from recording to raise her daughter, Cole finds herself on the rise again, thanks to a new album (Courage) and a national tour.

Cole's first major breakthrough came via the success of 1996's self-produced blockbuster This Fire, which spawned the hit singles "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?" and "I Don't Want to Wait" — the latter of which became the theme song for the long-running teen drama Dawson's Creek. An introspective and angst-ridden Lilith Fair staple, Cole won a Best New Artist Grammy in 1998, then released Amen the following year.
