Graham Coxon has released six solo albums, half while he was still playing guitar in Blur. His sixth and best, Love Travels at Illegal Speeds, covers love from every angle imaginable. Meeting someone new, falling for someone already taken, the perils of long-term relationships and more are all covered in a blistering soundtrack, on which Coxon plays every instrument. Blur fans won't likely be disappointed with the punk-pop hooks that propel these dark but sweet songs.
"Standing on My Own Again" finds Coxon vividly describing the thoughts — not to mention the frustration and brutal heartache — that accompany watching a loved one leave. His powerful, driving guitar work provides a nice companion to the desperation in his chorus: "Watching 'til you're out of sight / Dreaming I did something right / Standing on my own again." It's easy to get lost in Coxon's catchy gem, and to take great pleasure in his pain.
