'You're The Best Friend/Pen Pal/Third Grade Teacher Ever'

'You're the best friend/pen pal/third grade teacher ever... I just think you don't realize what a big impact you made on my life, so really, thank you for everything you've done for me.' - Carolyn Macleod

WUNC is in the midst of a yearlong examination of what it's like to be an educator, called the North Carolina Teacher Project. This week, we're returning to the My Teacher series, exploring what it takes to make a connection in the classroom by asking students to interview their teachers.

Carrboro High School sophomore Carolyn Macleod credits her third grade teacher Hannah Stang with her passion for writing. They have written letters to each other ever since Carolyn left Ms. Stang’s classroom at age 9.

In today’s installment of the My Teacher Series, Carolyn reunites with Ms. Stang to retrace her steps from third grade writing to high school English and journalism.

Carolyn's conversation with Hannah Stang is part of WUNC's My Teacher series. It's also a part of American Graduate-Let’s Make it Happen!- a public media initiative to address the drop out crisis, supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The My Teacher series is produced and facilitated by Will Michaels.
