It's been a good couple of years for hip-hop and soul producers to step out from the boards and record their own music. The latest, Raphael Saadiq, just released a solo disc called The Way I See It, an authentic-sounding slab of '60s-style soul. Hear the concert from WXPN and World Café Live in Philadelphia by clicking on the link above
Saadiq has been in the R&B scene for 20 years as a singer for groups such as Tony! Toni! Tone!, but spends much of his time in the producer's chair, helming recordings for the likes of John Legend, Joss Stone and The Roots. If The Way I See It is any indication, he's bound to spend more time in the spotlight for a long time to come.
