Companies Urge Bill Payers to Pay Online

More companies want customers to pay their bills online instead of sending checks in the mail. Some firms now charge a fee for sending a check; others are offering incentives to entice people to use online bill payment systems. NPR's Jack Speer reports.

Senate to Debate Higher Fuel Standards

A new energy bill sets up a Senate debate on a measure to increase fuel economy standards. It would require that cars, trucks and SUVs achieve an average of 35 miles per gallon by 2020. That's 10 miles per gallon over current levels.

Tuesday is the deadline to file federal income tax forms. Of 135 million forms expected this year, at least half will be filed electronically. And 20 percent will come in during this last week.
