North Carolina State lawmakers and the governor have still not agreed on a new spending plan for the budget year which began now more than two weeks ago.

The biggest sticking point appears to still be the issue of Medicaid expansion.

On this edition of the podcast Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) discusses his long established position on the issue. The leader of the North Carolina Senate also discusses a recent election where the Republican who won had supported Medicaid expansion.

Berger and capital bureau chief Jeff tabiri also discuss President Donald Trump's visit to Greenville on Wednesday night, as well as his recent tweets about Four Freshmen members of the US House

Jeff Tiberii first started posing questions to strangers after dinner at La Cantina Italiana, in Massachusetts, when he was two-years-old. Jeff grew up in Wayland, Ma., an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, and took summer vacations to Acadia National Park (ME) with his family. He graduated from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, and moved to North Carolina in 2006. His experience with NPR member stations WAER (Syracuse), WFDD (Winston-Salem) and now WUNC, dates back 15 years.
