This week's WUNCPolitics Podcast takes a deep dive into a topic that's a decade in the making.

“Right Turn” is a documentary-style podcast using archival interviews and conversations with key players to tell the story of the rise of the Republican Party this decade.

WUNC Capitol Bureau Chief Jeff Tiberii looks at the political landscape that led to the first Republican majority in the General Assembly in a century, and how the GOP has used its power to make significant changes to economic and social policies. He also looks ahead to Election Day, and the chances of a democratic resurgence, or a continuation of conservative control.

Jeff Tiberii first started posing questions to strangers after dinner at La Cantina Italiana, in Massachusetts, when he was two-years-old. Jeff grew up in Wayland, Ma., an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, and took summer vacations to Acadia National Park (ME) with his family. He graduated from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, and moved to North Carolina in 2006. His experience with NPR member stations WAER (Syracuse), WFDD (Winston-Salem) and now WUNC, dates back 15 years.
