This weekend, HBO will release the concert film from hip hop star J Cole's homecoming show in Fayetteville.

Cole returned a hero this summer after a tour to promote his Platinum album 2014 Forest Hills Drive. That's the address of his childhood home in Fayetteville.

Rap superstars Jay-Z and Drake took the stage at this performance.

Former Charlotte-resident Scott Lazer directed the concert film and the Road to Homecoming series leading up to the big show.

"It's the last show of the tour for this huge album for him and he brought out these two huge artists to kind of a small city, you know Fayetteville's not a very large city, is definitely historic for North Carolina music history, at least."

Lazer says Cole is prolific and was actively involved in most every aspect of the two records he promoted last year on tour.

"He's got an incredible work ethic that has been very inspiring to me, and it's been amazing to see how thoughtful he is about his work, how much he cares, and how talented he is."

The four-part series is out now, and the concert film premieres Saturday at 10 p.m.
