Home and business owners who file insurance claims in the wake of last weekend's storm and have a dispute with their insurer could be eligible for a state mediation program.
Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin activated the program earlier this week in anticipation of problems as many people put in claims for storm damage.
Spokeswoman Kerry Hall from the state Department of Insurance says her office is starting to get calls from people with questions:
Kerry Hall: "From an insurance standpoint a lot of our challenges are just beginning as people, after they've dealt with their immediate needs in the aftermath of this disaster they're going to start having visits from their adjusters, filing claims, and then if there is disputes, we have this program available for them."
A home or business owner would be eligible for mediation if their claim is denied, or if what they think they need to repair storm damages differs from what their insurer wants to give them by more than 15-hundred dollars.
