Parts of North Carolina Highway 12 on the Outer Banks have closed again due to ocean over wash.
North Carolina Department of Transportation Spokesman Steve Abbott says a section near U.S. Highway 64 and Nags Head is impassable, as is a portion between Pony Pen and the South Ferry Dock at Ocracoke.
Abbott says crews have been working to remove sand and debris from roadways after a Nor'easter brought strong winds and high water to the Outer Banks.
"As the storm slowly goes away and the effects on the Outer Banks are felt less and less, there'll just be a normal high tide and it won't be something that goes up onto the roadway," he said.
Meteorologist Scott Sharp of the National Weather Service says strong winds and waves should continue to batter the Outer Banks throughout the evening and begin to let up tomorrow morning.
