The surprisingly hard rocking song "Eve's Daughter" is just one of the stand-out singles on Amanda Shires' new record To The Sunset. The singer-songwriter and fiddler wrote her fifth collection of songs while sharing child-care duties with her partner Jason Isbell.

The songs on this album explode with snarling guitars, swirling sythesizers and some other-worldly sounds she coaxed from her fiddle after routing it through some effects pedals.

The results push and pull at the boundaries of Americana music with joyful abandon.

Shires was in town recently for a show at Cat's Cradle and stopped by for a chat.

You can hear more songs from Amanda Shires on WUNCMusic.org, on TuneIn and in the Triangle at 91.5 HD2.
