Concerts, memorials, and other events will take place across the state this Sunday to remember those who died on 9-11. Dave DeWitt reports.
From an interfaith panel at Duke to firefighter climbs in Greensboro and Morrisville, there will be a full slate of events surrounding the 10th anniversary of 9-11.
The firefighter climbs are part of 40 similar events scheduled across the country. Local firefighters will walk or climb the equivalent of a 110-story building to honor firefighters who died when the World Trade Center collapsed. Many will wear full gear, as well as a biography and photo of one of the firefighters killed in New York.
Towns like Chapel Hill and Cary will also host events – many will include comments from residents with unique connections to the tragic events in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania.
The Triangle's three largest universities – NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Duke – are collaborating on a series of events including art exhibitions and speeches. Most undergraduate students on those campuses were in grade school when 9-11 happened.
