JazzSet host Dee Dee Bridgewater pays tribute to Billie Holiday on her new CD, Eleanora Fagan (1915-1959): To Billie With Love From Dee Dee.
Bridgewater starred in the one-woman musical Lady Day in the 1980s. She channeled the iconic jazz singer nightly, singing in a voice that gradually became more and more like Holiday's. But on Eleanora Fagan (1915-1959), Bridgewater sings in her own celebrated voice, and she sees the CD as a modern celebration of Holiday's work.
Farah Jasmine Griffin, author of the book If You Can't Be Free, Be a Mystery: In Search of Billie Holiday, and Bridgewater talk with host Neal Conan about Holiday's style, talent and grace.
