Raleigh Mayor Won't Seek Fifth Term

Raleigh's mayor says she will not run for another term. Independent Nancy McFarlane's fourth term in office expires later this year.

In a farewell video, McFarlane praised Raleigh's investments in parks, the arts, business incubators and affordable housing. But she said partisan bickering has become too acrimonious for her taste.","_id":"00000178-136c-ddcb-affb-d3eccb7d0001","_type":"035d81d3-5be2-3ed2-bc8a-6da208e0d9e2"}">" target="_blank">","_id":"00000178-136c-ddcb-affb-d3eccb7d0001","_type":"035d81d3-5be2-3ed2-bc8a-6da208e0d9e2"}">

"The mean politics of Twitter and social media is painful when it's about you or someone that you love. This social disease has exploded since I first ran for City Council in 2007. Raleigh politics could use a reset. And I could use some time to think about what I want to do next."

McFarlane has worked as a pharmacist and entrepreneur. In her video, she said she wants to focus on her family and community as well as parks and arts moving forward.
