Wake Tech Bond On Ballot

Voters in Wake County will decide the fate of a $200 million bond for Wake Tech Community College.

The bond would be used to increase capacity by about 24,000 students. Currently, 66,000 students attend Wake Tech’s two campuses. Like most other community colleges, Wake Tech saw a boom in enrollment when the economy soured. That led to overcrowding and thousands of students being put on wait lists for classes. If passed, the bond would fund the growth on the two campuses, as well as beginning construction on the new campus in Morrisville. Wake Tech has already purchased 94 acres near the I-40 and I-540 interchange for the RTP campus. Voters passed bonds for Wake Tech by wide margins in 2004 and 2007.
