Michaela Anne Gets Moving on 'Desert Dove'

Michaela Anne

Michaela Anne grew up the daughter of a Navy officer. That means she moved around - a lot. In turn, that constant uprooting fuels some of the songs on her new album, 'Desert Dove.' She spoke with Eric Hodge about her upbringing and the process of recording the new album.

One of the themes she explores is constantly being on the move, both growing up and as a touring musician. On 'Child of the Wind' Michaela sings that her "home town was a back seat looking at highway signs."

"There's an element of sadness. I long focused on the sadness, but there's also a richness of, everywhere I go I know people."

'Desert Dove' is out now on Yep Roc Records.

Eric Hodge hosts WUNC’s broadcast of Morning Edition, and files reports for the North Carolina news segments of the broadcast. He started at the station in 2004 doing fill-in work on weekends and All Things Considered.
Brian Burns is the Music Director for WUNC Music, WUNC's AAA music discovery station. He has been working within the local music scene for over a decade. On the weekends you might see him DJing at various spots around the Triangle, or digging through boxes of records. He's also the host of Future Shock on WUNC Music and a contributor to NPR Music. He graduated from UNC’s School of Information and Library Science with an MSLS in 2015.
