Deep Dives On Education And Race With Special Broadcasts On WUNC

WUNC Special Broadcasts

Two special reports and documentaries to air on WUNC in December take deep dives into education issues. A third takes a look at the history of race.

·Equity in Education from WUNC News Sunday Dec 3 at 4 p.m. ·Keeping Teachers from APM Reports Sunday Dec 10 at 4 p.m.

First, WUNC News takes an in depth look at equity in public education in the State of North Carolina.  Do all students in our state have the resources they need to succeed in the classroom?  We’ll travel the state and talk to students, teachers, parents and leaders about the state of public education in North Carolina.

Hear "Equity in Education" on Sunday, December 3, at 4 p.m.

The following Sunday, December 10, you can hear APM Reports "Keeping Teachers."

Poor schools in urban and rural areas have something in common: Teachers are leaving, and it's having a big impact on kids. In high-poverty schools, annual teacher turnover can top 20 percent.

This APM Reports documentary tells two stories about the challenges poor schools in both rural and urban areas face when it comes to finding and keeping the teachers they need.

· The Invention of Race Sunday Dec 17 at 4 p.m.

Finally, on Sunday, December 17, you can hear "The Invention of Race" from John Biewen's Scene on Radio and the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. The broadcast is also at 4 p.m.

Other specials in December and January include several seasonal broadcasts. We'll post updates about those specials online soon. "Stay tuned!"
